Weekly Update #3 - Mocap is fun


Because I was struggling with humanoid animations (for cutscenes mostly), I decided to invest in an Xbox kinect and other hardware in order to do some mocap. I received everything this week, and promptly proceeded to record some stuff for cutscene #3, and even though the final result still requires some fixing and fine-tuning, it has helped me a lot getting things done, and it’s really fun too. I’m still not quite done with that particular cutscene, but it’s getting close.

In parallel to that, I also had some time to work on the rest of the inventory screen, and a nice equipable system. Here’s the full list:

Content

  • New feature: Infoboxes in the inventory screen, that give you a short description of the item you’ve selected.
  • New feature: Equipable system for the inventory; you can equip your items and abilities to two buttons (namely Y and RB on the Xbox controller).
  • Bugfix: The oil painting post-processing effect was resolution dependent; the higher the resolution the less pronounced it was.

Work in progress

  • Cutscene #3: almost there, I’ll surely be done with it next week.
  • The Records menu, I temporarily interrupted my work on that feature in favor of recording the cutscene.

Objectives for next update

  • Complete cutscene #3, should come quickly.
  • Complete the Records menu.
  • If I have time, start working on Treasures.
