Weekly Update #21 - Miscellaneous 2: Electric boogaloo


I’ve started working on the next epic for Seed of Life now, “Phae”. The goal will be to conceptualize, design, model, and implement a village and its inhabitants. Should be fun. For the moment, I’ve been dedicating most of my time to the creation of Phae’s portal, which is an important feature both story-wise and design-wise. Since I was done early, I’ve also took some time to implement smaller features, and do some bugfixing. Here’s the full list:

  • New Feature: Phae’s portal. Have you played Portal? Well, it’s the same thing: a magical portal that seamlessly shows what’s directly behind it. Implementing that in a third person game was actually quite the challenge.
  • New Feature: The “Sprint” button is now on the right trigger. This allows to press the jump button while sprinting more easily, and this also allows to make Letty fly downward while sprinting.
  • New Feature: Cutscene #5, a smaller cutscene that shows the opening of Phae’s portal.
  • Bugfix: In standalone builds only, the cancel button would not close an opened menu.

Objectives for next update

  • Start working on Phae’s concept arts
  • Start working on Phae’s models, textures, and implementations
  • A couple of bugs are in dire need of fixing, so I’ll allocate some time to do more bugfixing.
  • If I have the time, start working on the concept art for Phae’s inhabitants: the Phaeries. An insectoid people.
