Weekly Update #31 - Mixed bag of features


Another very productive week for Seed of Life. There’s bugfixing, new features, new assets, lots of good stuff. And the most exciting news is, the first level is now 95% complete! Here’s the full list:

Content

  • New feature: Letty can now take damage from enemies, and cause a Game Over (Letty and Hope share the same health bar).
  • New feature: It’s now possible to skip cutscenes by pressing start.
  • New feature: Charm crystals, with their little animation, which will give you new abilities to make progress in the game.
  • New scripted event: Getting Shockwave, the first charm.
  • New asset: Charm crystal model and textures.
  • New asset: Genesis’ field generator, which generates electric arcs on platform or other points of interest.
  • New asset: Short jingle for when you discover a secret (à la Legend of Zelda).
  • Bugfix: The sprint effect does no longer stay active when entering a cutscene or a scripted event while sprinting.
  • Bugfix: The non-euclidian portal effects do no longer eat up performance as much.
  • Bugfix: The orbweaver enemy now stays underground as it should.

Work in progress

  • Still working on completing the level design for the first level, getting there.
  • Started working on the first boss’ design

Objectives for next update

  • Implement the Genesis’ field generator
  • Complete the first boss’ design and model, maybe rigging and textures as well
  • Complete what’s left to do for the first level’ level design
